Derek E. Baird, M.A. is a media technologist and author specializing in digital media strategy, product development, mobile tech, educational technology/media, youth marketing and online communities. He has worked with clients in both the U.S. and international markets.

Derek consults with organizations in the educational, digital media, entertainment, government and non-profit sectors to design and/or implement multi-platform media (web, tv & mobile) experiences and product strategies focused on kids, t/weens, and parents.

Recent clients include: Yahoo!, The Museum of Tolerance, The National College of Ireland, Stone Yamashita Partners, The Digital Alliance, PBWiki, Pearson Media, Kia Motors America, Yahoo! Southeast Asia, PBwiki, SMtv Music, CBS and Knowledge Essentials Media.

At Yahoo! Derek was part of a small team that designed a social networking community and web app created for educators, parents and kids.

He has also presented at several national educational media & technology events including the National Science Digital Library (NSDL) Conference, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Conference on Cyberbullying, and the 2007 American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Conference.

Derek has published articles on education technology, digital web strategy, social media, mobile technology trends, social entertainment, edutainment and online communities in both peer reviewed & online journals including: Campus-Wide Information Systems, TechLearning, The Journal of Education Technology Systems and YPulse.

He also is a contributor to Didactics World, a publication focused on web-based & mobile technology trends in the Middle East and India. His blog, Barking Robot, has been syndicated in several leading publications including Business Week and Chicago Sun-Times.

mobileYouth, a leading international consultancy focused on mobile culture & trends, included Derek on its list of the Top 20 Youth Marketing Bloggers and Top 50 Follow Friday Twitterers.

Derek received his M.A. in Education Technology from the Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) at Pepperdine University and holds Masters Certificates in both Project Management & Interactive Marketing.
